Those Usual Suspects are amongst a new breed of dance music heavyweights throwing their weight around and making their presence felt globally through their production works and live DJ sets. Originally a collaboration between Melbourne DJ’s, Maarcos and Wei-Shen, this Australian duo started producing quality bootlegs of many of the biggest club anthems. Chance then led to these boys being commissioned to remix Inaya Day “Nasty Girl”. The track went straight to number one on the ARIA charts and the boys captured the immediate attention of the industry. Then with the later addition of Victorian College of the Arts bass player Atridge D’Costa, these mischievous cohorts decided to brand themselves under the moniker Those Usual Suspects.

Going against the electro trend at the time, they stuck to their percussive house roots and produced their maiden single “Dakka” which was released on Bob Sinclar’s ϋber cool Africanism/Yellow Productions imprint and remixed by Louie Vega. It received instant support – whether being hammered out relentlessly by Roger Sanchez, Martin Solveig, David Guetta, DJ Gregory, Simon Dunmore and Erick Morillo or getting airplay on Pete Tong’s essential selection in the summer of 2007 - and Those Usual Suspects became the first and only Australian group to be inducted into the French-based Africanism All Stars fraternity.
During late 2007, and after drawing inspiration from 90’s club classics, they locked themselves in the studio and reworked Three Drives on a Vinyl’s “Greece 2000” as a side project. Unaware of the massive hype that was to come, their remake of “Greece 2000” remixed by D.O.N.S & DBN and Maarcos, received rapturous support worldwide. Charted in the Swedish House Mafia’s top 10, it was billed the track of the summer of 2008 in all the clubs in Ibiza and summer festivals worldwide. It’s no wonder Ministry of Sound has proclaimed Those Usual Suspects to be among the biggest house producers to break out of Australia… ever.

Having finished remixes of Bob Sinclar (feat Steve Edwards) “Together” and Kings Of Tomorrow (feat Julie McKnight) “Finally” for Defected, and “Bob Sinclar & Axwell (feat Ron Carroll) “What a Wonderful World” in the summer of 2008, their next single “Shadows” featuring Abigail Bailey was unleashed in November 2008. This track has been another hit with remixes by Inpetto, Norman Doray and Those Usual Suspects’ own Maarcos. It has already been championed by the likes of the Swedish House Mafia, Bob Sinclar, Kaskade and even Armin Van Buuren amongst others, whilst also catapulting Those Usual Suspects into the American music scene after debuting at 22 on the US Billboard Dance Charts. Backing up Wei-Shen’s mixed CD contribution on the Ministry of Sound “Housexy Spring 2007” CD compilation and the “Alumbra presents Defected In The House” CD compilation in 2008, now in 2009 is the Ministry of Sound “Housexy Autumn 2009” CD compilation which Those Usual Suspects and Mobin Master were commissioned to mix. And most recently their remix of Dimitri From Paris (presents Electra 80) – “Rock This” was released on French label SSOH while their next release “Coma Yese (Rain Dance)” featuring Shovell (Defected’s resident percussionist and of M-People fame) on vocals has been signed to House stable Reel Groove … with an arsenal of tunes still to follow.

Their live DJ sets, which fuse Maarcos’ driving big-room sound with Wei-Shen’s distinctive brand of hedonistic and sexy house music, have also earned them international acclaim and is in relentless demand. Be rest assured, the excitement juggernaut that is Those Usual Suspects has arrived and will continue to carve an enviable reputation as being one of the most prolific production/DJ acts from Australia.
